Thanks

Thanks to the young woman who stopped and helped me pick up the coins I had dropped in the middle of the UCC at UWO.  I was surprised, and I am appreciative.

I'd like to be the kind of fellow who stops and helps others in instances like this.  My trouble is, my radar isn't attuned well enough for this kind of thing.  I'm too 'caught up' in my life and by the time I think of it, I'm usually too far past and the person has already picked up their coins/papers etc.  I don't always get the kindness thing right.

I do open doors for people and often, I do see someone with their hands full and ... I get that right.  So ... it's a trade off, sometimes.  We do what we can.  Let us celebrate the kindness radar we DO have and let it go at that.

I shovelled my neighbours laneway today.  It was the least I could do for all the fighting he did for me during WWII so that I can live my life in a free democratic country.  So there's another example of active kindness.

And naturally, when someone does something nice for you, like when a department head at a university takes time to meet with you, you send them a thank-you.  I did that too.  It's just what being kind is all about.
