October 2007 Newsletter Article #1

Welcome to the Human Kindness Web Blog
By W. Owen Thornton

Hi.  We’re ba-ack!  You will notice a completely different look to the www.thehumankindnessproject.com website.  First off, it has become a web blog, instead of a web site.  As I work through the technical issues of posting text and images so that things look ‘almost’ as nice as they did with the former website, there are a few great advantages.

First off www.godaddy.com blogs offer you a safe and secure method of commenting on my articles or short ideas.  If you click on ‘add comment’ at the bottom of any section, a new screen pops up where you can enter your thoughts and ideas.  The best ideas will be summarized and I may add my own comments to them in the form of a human kindness dialogue.  This is something I’ve been dying to try, so please avail yourself of this feature if you would like to chime in.

Second you can always look at the category archives and find pertinent articles/essays on the subject matter you enjoy.  Regular newsletter articles will be linked here, for example.  A list of headlines will come up if you click on a category in the sidebar.  Just click on the article title to see the full article.
Third, the calendar in the sidebar shows when new articles have been added to the website.  Click on any ‘numerical day’ with an underscore and all of the articles posted that day appear in headline form.  Again, click on the headline and you can see the full essay.

Fourth, you can easily see any updates by typing your email into the box above, “Subscribe to the blog” and then clicking on the ‘subscribe to blog’ box and every new page I enter will be sent to you.  For me, the jury is out on this service because I always seem to find a typo or a missing word in my freshly posted articles.  Every time I ‘reach behind the scenes’ to make a correction or add a picture or something I get a fresh email stating that there’s been an addition to the blog.  So, if you don’t want this to be a bother, we’ll continue with the current monthly e-newsletter format.  However, if you sign up, each email for each page comes with an unsubscribe feature, so you’re not hung up forever receiving information you do not desire.  The choice is so easy and it’s all up to you.

Fifth, and this is a great advantage to me, the cost of this service is approximately 1/12 of the cost of the annual fees we were paying – making it affordable and it still ‘looks’ reasonable too!
I’m delighted that you’ve stuck with me thus far as I continue to write about and think ‘out loud’ in article and essay form about all things kind.  Thanks for believing in me and the world thanks you too … for weaving a thread of kindness into a sometimes oblivious world.
